Good racing again, in a friendly atmosphere as always.

Welcome to Sofia, a new racer in our group: well done for her first races!

Thanks to Kio for cheering us up.

Congrats to Julia and Moon on their wins. All 3 races were eventful, with changes of lead and close fights.

Wind was a gusty 15 knots from the N-NW (339º - Var 1 / Gusts 6 / Drift 0)

Technically, Julia could have been named winner as neither Viv nor Moon executed the penalty turns they may have been awarded for fouling each other during pre-start: first Moon, not keeping clear on a port/starboard cross, then Viv not keeping clear on the line in a leeward/windward situation with Moon.

Let's say these penalties had offset each other : this is to remain a fun event, and we did have great fun during the whole tight race we sailed !

Moon eventually got the better at first, with the help of Sherry as crew, quickly gaining on the girls after the 1st tack. Behind, the battle was extremely tight, with Julia hot on Viv's aft. The intricate newer course design created some gaps as the sailors moved on, the order seeming well established when they attacked the last downwind leg.

Moon first went South after the last mark then gybed a little late, which opened the door for Viv who had chosen a straight path to the finish line. Julia struggled a bit in the end while Sofia, for her first race, got lost, having the wrong chart to follow.

IF@FIYC - First beat, so close!!

Another fun and tight race, in this simpler course design. Julia took the better start, with Viv close behind, shadowing Moon.
It was a long and gruelling beat to the 1st mark, which Viv reached first. However, she earned a penalty for not keeping clear as she tacked in front of Moon.
Julia took the opportunity to get ahead, and never looked back, while again Moon and Viv were sailing in close quarters as they reached Crow's Nest, the final mark before the run to finish. Despite the unusual wind, Julia finished fast. Viv managed to shake Moon off her tail by taking the spinnaker down and luffing to broad reach under jib.
Sofia did a solid run, finishing fast not far from Moon, who must have been distracted in some way at some point, given his (unusually) slower time.
Race 3 - FIYC T1-01
  1: moonglownight Resident   IDBSBF2E -- 00:09:46
  2: Geneer Gynoid   IDBS6F8A -- 00:10:19
  3: vivipezz Resident   IDBS42D3 -- 00:10:51
  4: Sophie Sharkfin   IDBS4539 -- not Finished
 Lap Times:
  moonglownight Resident   IDBSBF2E -- Start: 00:00:02  --  Last lap: 00:09:44
  Geneer Gynoid   IDBS6F8A -- Start: 00:00:12  --  Last lap: 00:10:07
  vivipezz Resident   IDBS42D3 -- Start: 00:00:03  --  Last lap: 00:10:48
Sophie Sharkfin   IDBS4539 -- Start: 00:02:31  --  Last lap: not finished
Given the time, we decided to change for a shorter course to finish off the evening regatta.
This time, after a disputed start against Viv, Moon took the lead from the get go and never looked back.
Viv and Julia again were neck and neck. Julia managed a better tack and took off, while Viv struggled to fetch the 1st mark.
Sofia encountered issues with her boat and retired from the race.
Hoping to see you all next week for more fun and exciting racing, Cheers & Fair winds :D
