Sunday 28th January, 7am SLT
SLIFF Clubhouse, Skagway
RACE RESULTS

We only had six boats checked in for racing today at SLIFF, so I guess there was a party on somewhere and we weren't invited. However, forget the party, we had a great time.

We ran three races as a regatta, with the first two using the new "up and down" SLIFF-13 course with some interesting wind variations during the races. As predicted when I drew up this course, it provided some challenging crossing situations to test us on our application of the racing rules - that testing both the skippers AND the RD who had a serious mental workout. The sims had been restarted just a few hours before, but there were a couple of crashes and some commented on the lag.

For the third race, I threw in two laps of one of our existing courses - SLIFF-10 "The Twister" with a stronger wind than we regular race with. This was a fast race which saw the fleet stretching out with Jimi the clear leader and ultimate winner. Congratulations to him for his two wins and one second place, and the eventual regatta champion today.

But that's not the end of today's event, as we're running a series through February with an eventual Series Champion receiving a trophy, a copy of which will start our clubhouse's trophy collection. Keep racing SLIFFers!

Using the low-point system, and discarding the worst result, the podium ceremony celebrated Sunny on the 3rd step. However, looking at the results table again, I realise I have messed up BIG STYLE and denied Alice her rightful place as 3rd overall, beating Sunny by one point. Ooops, Alice sorry ... again?!!

So it's Alice 3rd, Moonglownight 2nd, and Jimi today's champion in 1st place.

If at first you don't succeed, single-handed ‘round the world ocean racing is not for you.

Congrats to Alice for her well earned third place. Great pics Analyse. :)

And for those who missed it, here's a panda eating a carrot, with questionable table manners

Macz, You had it right the first time. Since Moon got a DSQ in race 2 Sunny gets the second position in that race. It means that her best result (2) places her in front because my best was a third.

Without that DSQ I would have placed 3rd in the total with 1 point less then Sunny. (I hope I got the bean-counting right  ;) )

Totals for the year: http://backman.nu/SL/results/SLIFF.htm

This will soon be improved with times and placings of each individual race and sailor.

Ok, good point Alice. My brain has certainly been overheated as I forgot to move everyone behind Moon up one place. And I even ran Sailwave (still learning it, but getting more familiar) to verify the series result ... but didn't input Moon as DSQ, left him in 2nd, which "confirmed" my recalculation with you in 3rd overall.

Now I've just run Sailwave again with Moon corrected DSQ in Race 2, which shows that you tied on 6 points with Sunny, but as you rightly point out the tie breaks in her favour. Wow, well despite the chaos I'm causing here in the forum (tries to laugh at himself) at least I got it right on the jetty yesterday.

Be patient with me peeps, I'm about to have a very traumatic birthday  That's my excuse and I'm sticking to it!
